Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has shown a strong narrative throughout the various seasons and with such spirits created a web series called Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot based on the backstory of Elena Yo-Yo Rodríguez.

From the main series, Yo-Yo is introduced as an Inhuman living in Colombia with a close cousin being persecuted by the corrupt police. Since she is the newest member of the team, and after signing the Sakovia Accords, Yo-Yo is given a “backstory”.

Containing only 8 episodes, the web series focuses on her quest to find for her cousin’s killer without the knowledge of S.H.I.E.L.D.S. It’s during this short but prolonged period of time that the main character interacts with usually one character per episode by which she establishes her connection or opinion about them. Up to this point, I consider the approach to be interesting.

What makes me hesitant to consider this production effective is the plot itself. Her desire to find this man isn’t to be the appropriate way to get to know Yo-Yo or if it is more time was needed to develop another connection that involves Yo-Yo. It seems that the true reason for the web series is to fill the gap between season 3 and 4.

From that perspective, the web series proves to be valuable despite the lack of depth in the plot. It also goes straight to the point with no apparent loose ends. I was expecting more but it was still very entertaining.
